Decisions, decisions!

Another outstanding SCBS meeting in April, with Ian Glew demonstrating his prowess in shaping, pruning and potting across a range of trees and styles – transforming a tree in a pot into an impressive bonsai. Another great gathering with around 50 members attending, including a number of new members.

Much of the talk was on the up-coming bus trip on Saturday 1 May to Brisbane to the Annual Bimer Bonsai Show, as well as a visit to Stephen and Dianne Rawkins’ Australian Bonsai Grower nursery at Park Ridge.

Subsequently, at 7.30 on Saturday morning, 25 excited club members boarded the bus for Brisbane. Following the Bimer show and tour of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, and specifically the Bonsai House, we headed for Park Ridge to explore the nursery’s amazing selection of tree species and sizes, from starters to advanced bonsai. As we soon discovered, range is one thing, choosing is another. With so many great trees on offer, deciding on the right tree proved to be quite a challenge!

Our next SCBS meeting is on Saturday 22 May and will feature a demonstration on Corky Bark Elm by Averil Stanley and Lee Webster followed by a tutorial workshop. Doors open at 12.30 for a 1.00 start.
